Welcome to Taxidirver.ca. You are now entering
Canada’s only “one stop” information service for the taxi
industry. Drivers and customers alike can find within our
pages; news, editorials, history and a lively forum which
covers a host of topics. Our forum visitors come together to
discuss and banter over the events of the day, or about
changes that will impact their employment. It is also a
great place to make new friends from all over the world.
Although our focus lies within the
Canadian industry, we have structured the site to encompass
issues that affect the industry worldwide. Our “Special
Reports” page is just one of those areas. Here you will find
informative, in-depth interviews and opinions on specialized
topics. Other areas of interest are “Jim’s Desk,” where our
own President, Jim Marlor posts his own editorials. His
hard-hitting and at times humorous writings are in response
to the current trends and issues affecting the taxi industry
today. You definitely won’t find any pussy-footing around in
this section! For you history buffs, we have “Robin’s
Corner.” In this section, you will find essays and photos
(some contributed by our own members,) exhibiting the
evolution of the taxi industry. There is plenty of room for
member contributions in this section, especially since we
want to cover topics of interest. To include all scopes of
the industry we have the “In the Headlights” section, which
is where you will find personal interviews from different
owners of taxi companies. They share their experiences and
struggles, often adding a humorous insight to how the
industry has evolved. Recognition and support is what our
site is all about.
What keeps us up and running you may
ask? To put it simply, it is the advertisements. Be sure to
check out our advertisers, since many of them will offer a
deal or discount to taxi drivers. Showing your support by
clicking on their banner ads, will ensure that we can
continue to offer you up-to-date news and events in the
future.
It is important to stress at this point
that we are NOT a union, and have no wish to become one. It
is about time that the taxi industry had a place to unite
and form solutions, and now you have found exactly that
place. The intention of this site is to give the industry
the information they require, so they may “act” rather than
“react” to changes.
We are continuing to grow in leaps and
bounds, and appreciate the support of all our visitors, who
have come to rely on our services. We will continue to add
major cities to our pages, bringing the Canadian industry
together. Taxidriver.ca encourages any person in the
industry who may wish to contribute to our services (by
either writing an article, informing us of local issues,
etc.) to contact either Jim Marlor (President) at
jmarlor@taxidriver.ca or Robin Greenhalgh (Editor) at
taxigirl@cogeco.ca. Lastly, do not hesitate to contact
us with suggestions or comments, on how to improve our site.

Taxidriver.ca opportunity
Want to make
money outside the taxi?
We
at taxidriver.ca are looking for help in expanding to more
cities-towns across Canada. It is the wish of this site to bring
the news of our industry to every community.
If you have ever wanted to express your
views and report the industry news in your area, this could be a
great opportunity for you.
We are looking for franchisee’s .You would
be responsible for the page in your city or town. This would
include news for your area and advertisements that help support
the site. There is no franchise up front fees.
Our hope is to become the coast to coast,
one stop, online news source for cabbies in Canada. If you think
this would interest you (or you and a friend) in your area. Let
us know.
We at taxidriver.ca have plans for the
site that will help us to obtain this goal. Here is your chance
to help your fellow drivers and at the same time let the general
public know what is going on in your area.
If interested please contact us for more
information on this exciting new frontier. We will then tell you
more and let you know how you make money at the same time.
Remember together we all have a louder
voice as we have found out already and the site has made a
difference. Funny, how politicians take notice to larger
groups!

HYBRIDS – A TAXI FUTURE OR FOE?
Hybrids are not exactly new to the market, even if somewhat
sparse. With soaring fuel costs they have been thrust into the
current limelight, gaining more recognition. Taxidriver.ca has
been following closely as these types of vehicles filter their
way into the taxi industry. Skeptics question their ability to
handle the stresses of professional driving, and whether they’ll
stand to the constant wear and tear.
